Who we are

Shellpoint Mortgage Servicing (SMS) is one of America’s top-five non-bank mortgage-servicing companies. What is mortgage servicing? Our clients are businesses that own mortgage loans (such as banks and real estate investment firms). On their behalf, we manage (or "service") their loan portfolios, which means that we collect homeowners’ mortgage payments, pay their tax and insurance bills, and help homeowners in default to get current.

Position overview

The primary duty of this role is the management of all aspects of the application development lifecycle associated with the Servicing Director application and ancillary systems. This position involves evaluating existing applications to determine technical changes, management of project resources in the development and quality assurance roles, working with Release Manager to help coordinate release schedule, and partnering with the Scrum Master/PM to plan sprints. This position requires significant design, development, and architecture experience involving enterprise application architecture and experience managing developers and quality assurance professionals. The role will perform supervisory duties for the development and quality assurance teams such as setting team standards, goal setting and tracking, PTO management, coaching, weekly meetings with direct reports, staff development, etc.  The role will constantly look for opportunity to improve processes to ensure all development implementations occur swiftly and accurately.  We’re looking for team players who are friendly, outgoing, well-spoken people that are reliable, flexible, and have a service-first mentality.

Duties & responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Work with operational leaders, business support group leaders and IT leadership to create and manage applications that improve efficiency, controls, accuracy, compliance, security, etc. 

  • Maintain and oversee all department standards, processes, policies and procedures including the approved development methodologies implemented at Shellpoint Mortgage. 

  • Make strategic, architectural, and tactical decisions on applications, integrations, and other technology items being worked and implemented into the platform. 

  • Oversee, design and ensure consistent and secure coding standards are employed across the team.

  • Oversee, design and ensure consistent and secure testing standards are employed across the team.

  • Oversee, design, and ensure appropriate source code management policies and practices are implemented and maintained.

  • Oversee, design and maintain appropriate and adequate controls to pass internal, external and 3rd party IT audit requirements applicable to a development organization.

  • Advance individual and the team’s knowledge on new, evolving, and cutting-edge technologies for both internal operations and business-facing applications.

  • Partner with clients and internal affiliates to manage expectations and ensure timely accurate delivery of applications facing those groups.

  • Maintain and report on department KPI’s and other metrics such as pipeline, throughput, ETA’s, etc. to IT and operational management.

  • Perform personnel managerial duties such as goal setting and tracking, performance monitoring and coaching, ensuring associate engagement, and other typical managerial duties.

  • Other tasks or responsibilities as assigned by management.

  • Achieve and participate in company performance goals.

  • Take part in continuous training in company policies/procedures and industry regulations.

Skills & abilities

The successful candidate needs:

  • 12+ years working in application development and/or quality assurance with 5+ years working in application development management.

  • The ability to work from home is a must as member of remote US team.

  • Ability to remain focused in a fast-paced, highly dynamic environment while maintaining the highest levels of customer service to external parties and engagement with staff.

  • Knowledge of all development operations such as agile, coding standards, security concerns, change management, implementation management and regulatory control environments such as SOX.

  • Demonstrated ability to recruit, lead and retain a highly engaged, knowledgeable team.

  • Exceptionally strong leadership skills managing remote teams (US based only)

  • A positive attitude, with an eagerness to solve problems.

  • Excellent reasoning and research skills; the ability to see the "big picture" and manage the details.

  • A strong work ethic, high integrity, and well-organized mindset.

  • Strong understanding of relational databases, distributed architecture, and web application concepts

  • Expert in software development and applying development and quality standards.

  • Ability to conduct research into development issues, standards and products as required.

  • Demonstrates experience in a variety of the field's concepts and best practices.

  • Fully understands software development lifecycle and experience with agile/scrum methodologies to software development.

  • Document technical design solutions by creating diagrams

  • Design user interface solutions by creating wireframes

  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment and leading development teams.

  • Mentoring other team members

  • Participate in solution design sessions with architecture team and other peer teams.

  • Ability to present ideas and designs to variety of audiences.

  • Good communication skills with a strong customer support orientation.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills.

  • Experience with agile methodologies and desire to develop in an agile environment.

  • Experience with the following languages and using below concepts:

    • C#

    • Azure Services (app service, function apps, event grid, etc)

    • Azure DevOps (build and release pipelines, git, work items)

    • Docker (Azure container, Kubernetes, Rancher)

    • Blazor (plus but not necessary)

    • .NET 5/6

    • MS SQL Server (2016 +)

    • noSQL (Cosmos DB preferred)

    • TSQL

    • Web applications

    • REST API

    • Microservices and corresponding design patterns (CQRS, Mediator, etc)

  • Experience with JIRA as a project lifecycle management, development and defect tracking tool.

  • Mortgage servicing experience a plus

  • Azure certification a plus

  • Dedicated and separate high-speed Internet.

Physical Demands/Work Environment/Disclaimer

Must be able to remain in a stationary position for long periods of time. Must be able to effectively access/operate and interpret information on computer screens, documents, and reports. Must be able to effectively communicate with all homeowners. Nothing in this job description restricts management’s right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time. Typical work schedule is Monday - Friday, 8:00 - 5:00 with some minor flexibility. Periodic off hour interaction with offshore vendor management leadership and team members will be required. Certain after hours/weekend time may be necessary for projects, emergencies, or high business volume situations. After hours/ weekend email monitoring is expected. Up to 20% travel to other company locations for projects, training, etc. may be needed periodically.
