Network Architect

Primary Function
The Network Architect installs, configures, supports, monitors, tests, and troubleshoots hardware and software problems pertaining to enterprise. This role recommends and schedules repairs. Provides end users support for all enterprise based applications. Installs and configures network, workstation and server hardware. Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures.
Principal Duties
Provides World Class Customer Service to internal and external customers.
Provides 24x7 production support to the enterprise
Supports and maintains production applications
Processes requests from internal ticketing systems
Performs analysis of network needs and contributes to design of network architecture, integration, and installation.
Installs and maintains local and wide area network hardware and software, including servers, peripherals, network nodes, terminals, and wiring.
Coordinates installation of hardware and software by others.
Evaluates local area network hardware and software requirements and capabilities and makes recommendations.
Provides support to and trains users in local area network administration and usage.
Monitors and maintains network stability.
Communicates and coordinates network schedule, backups, and downtime to users.
Prepares and maintains documentation of network configurations and cabling layouts.
Establishes network users, user environments, directories, and security for networks being installed.
Assigns, documents, and maintains computer login codes, passwords, and access profiles for software applications, network access, and telecommunications systems.
Reviews computer reports, files, and messages to identify instances of possible security infractions.
Tests computer systems to evaluate effectiveness of security.
Responds to inquiries regarding data and computer security, policies, and procedures.
Installs security identification and apparatus to computer hardware and peripherals.
Modifies security files to add, modify, or delete users' access.
Maintains data-encryption software programs and keys.
Leads the planning, communication, testing, and implementation of disaster recovery procedures
Installs and maintains various Web servers.
Assists with linking Web servers to database systems.
Researches and implements security and firewall strategies.
Develops network, news, and host security policies.
Monitors network traffic and makes necessary recommendations for additional resources or hardware.
Collects and analyzes network and memory utilization.
Identifies potential security issues and develops strategy to ensure site security.
Assembles hardware components on large-scale and small-scale computer systems according to established design specifications.
Researches and evaluates new technologies.
Performs complex technical tasks including debugging and supporting hardware modules and systems.
Performs network troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose complex network problems.
Work with modules and systems
Provides users with network technical support.
Responds to needs and questions of users concerning their access of network resources.
Coordinates third-party maintenance for network hardware, software.
Provides mentoring and training to other staff members
Writes process and procedural documentation including requirements.
Must be able to write jobs, using various scripting languages, i.e. Java Script, Perl Script, etc.
Researches and evaluates new technologies.
Acts as a source of information to other staff members
Develops and coordinates knowledge transfer.
Interacts with business units to gather, define, and organize delivery of business solution
Establishes enterprise-wide uniform infrastructure, including supporting defined departmental content processes and creating guidelines for content deployment.
Coordinates third-party maintenance for network hardware, software.
Performs related duties as assigned by supervisor
Education and Experience Requirements
Typically requires a college degree or equivalent experience
Typically requires five (5) to seven (7) years related experience, including five (5) years hands-on experience
Preferred certification in networking technologies
Knowledge, Skill and Ability Requirements
Works under limited supervision
Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures
Can write jobs, using various scripting languages
Must have expert knowledge in a broad range of network operating systems.
Must have excellent knowledge of network security.
Must have strong knowledge in data telecommunications equipment (routers, switches)
Must have knowledge in server based scripting languages.
Requires an extremely high level of technical skill in field of expertise.
Must have expert knowledge of server hardware and operating systems.
Must have extensive knowledge of network connectivity i.e. TCP/IP
Expert knowledge of PC/Server hardware and support
Expert knowledge of Email systems i.e. Microsoft Exchange
Expert knowledge of server technologies i.e. Microsoft Active Directory, SharePoint
Knowledge of business intelligence technologies i.e. Cognos, Oracle BI
Knowledge of compliance initiatives i.e. SOX, SAS70, PCI and ITIL
Knowledge of Backup Technologies
Knowledge of VMware
Knowledge of SAN infrastructure
Analytical/Interpersonal Skills
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Must be able to exchange information with all levels of internal and external customers.
Primary job functions typically require exercising independent judgment.
Sets priorities, based on workload, using past experiences as a guide line.
Must have excellent collaboration skills.
Can lead projects through complex tasks.
