Primary Function

The Quality Control (QC) Underwriter III is responsible for re-underwriting loans files selected for review in accordance with the company’s Quality Control Plan.  Accuracy and timeliness are key to this process.  Results from these reviews are key leading and lagging indicators used by executive management to assess underwriting risk for the organization.

Principal Duties

  • Conduct reviews in accordance with agency and company standards to include individual analysis of:
    • Loan application
    • Credit profile/report(s)
    • Debt and assets
    • Income/financial statements
    • Loan values/loan-to-value ratios
    • Appraisal reports
    • Collateral and supporting documentation
  • Identify loan deficiencies and calculate the risk grade on each (significant, moderate, minor)
  • Provide Operations with a clear picture of the findings noted with required detail to ensure understanding and provide an adequate response
  • Escalate files with suspected fraud to the Fraud Investigations Unit
  • Identify quality trends and work with the Quality Control Management Team to recommend and drive corrective action
  • Ensure compliance with Caliber policies, processes, and practices
  • Perform other duties and/or participate on department projects as assigned

Education and Experience Requirements  

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 5-7 years of progressive related experience.
  • Residential mortgage underwriting experience
  • DE certification; VA LAAP/SAR preferred
  • Experience working with Fannie Mae Desktop Underwriter and Freddie Mac Loan Prospector

Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Requirements  

  • Knowledge of FHA, VA, USDA, Non-QM, FNMA and FHLMC policies and guidelines
  • Knowledge of mortgage loan processing, compliance, investor products and underwriting guidelines
  • Knowledge of mortgage insurance (MI) guidelines
  • Working knowledge of various fraud tools
  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent customer service orientation
  • Ability to multi-task, effectively prioritize tasks and responsibilities; effective time management
  • Strong analytical skills; effective decision making skills with the ability to appropriately exercise independent judgment
  • Strong quality orientation with an attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work independently, as well as, effectively function as a member of the QC Team
  • Accountability; strong work ethic
  • Integrity, ability to maintain and work with confidential information
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills to include MS Word & Excel
